Curriculum Intent

At Branton St.Wilfrid’s CE Primary School, our broad and balanced curriculum has been designed to ensure every child can ‘live life in all its fullness’ with Christian values at its heart.    We want to inspire all our children, regardless of background, to be successful by equipping them with the knowledge, confidence and skills that will allow them to take part fully in society and succeed in life.  The knowledge-rich and ambitious curriculum is enhanced through memorable experiences and authentic end of unit outcomes, allowing children of all abilities to flourish in our school, whilst also celebrating diversity.  Our engaging curriculum intends to encourage a thirst for learning, foster curiosity, inspire creativity and nurture our children into knowledgeable, highly motivated, independent and responsible young people – the educated citizens of the future.

At Branton St. Wilfrid’s CE Primary School, every pupil is valued as an individual.  We support our children to have high levels of articulacy and be confident communicators who develop skills for life-long learning. We nurture our pupils on their journey and encourage them to be unique, open-minded and respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world. We take our responsibility to prepare for life in modern Britain very seriously and ensure that the fundamental British Values are lived out through the ethos and work of our school.

Our sequential and progressive curriculum is the road map for our pursuit of knowledge, understanding and skills.   We have designed our coherent curriculum by breaking down key explicit elements in to granular components of substantive and disciplinary knowledge.  The use of a clear teaching sequence allows children to become fully immersed in each subject and strive for academic excellence across the curriculum.  Learning always builds on prior knowledge, allowing children to fully embed their skills and knowledge, make links with other learning and transfer this to their long-term memory.
